DIY Polka Dot Jeans

Yesterday I announced that I am beginning my 15x15 challenge. You may have noticed that one of my items was a pair of polka dot jeans. I have a secret though; that was not one of the items I got on my Christmas shopping spree. I made them! Here's how I did it:

034
Step 1: Get your materials together. You'll need:
-Paint (I used white)
-Circle sponge brush
-Cardboard to put in your pants so the paint doesn't soak through
-Scissors (optional: I used the top of a shoe box so I needed to cut it out)
-And of course, jeans! (I thrifted mine for $5)

027
Step 2: I used a tip from Short Of Something and put tape on the pants while they were on to make sure my dots would be straight.

049
Step 3: Dip your brush in paint and press straight down. Try not to put too much pressure on it or it may spread out and lose the circle shape.

050
Tip: If you have any dots that didn't fill out completely, one way to fix it is by dipping the back of the brush in the paint and using that to complete the dot. It's smaller and more precise so you won't make a mistake while trying to fill in the dot.

055
Step 4: Keep painting your polka dots until you've done them all (remember to move your cardboard as you go). Wait for the paint to dry, then do the back.  I actually did two coats of paint on each side because some of the paint soaks into the fabric and I wanted my polka dots completely opaque.

004
Step 5: Wear and enjoy! Here's a picture of my finished jeans (which also happens to be a preview of my first 15x15 outfit).

What do you think about these polka dot jeans? Would you ever make a pair like this?

    1. Thanks! The best thing about doing DIY jeans is you can make the dots as big or small as you want.

  10. $5!!! This is a great project! Your pants look terrific and to be honest, they don't look DIY at all. If I tried it, they would be all crooked! jajaja!

    1. Thank you! I bet this would look great on shorts. It might look a little better with slightly smaller dots, but that would still be easy.

      Thanks for stopping by!
